Auto Dealership Loses Millions from Theft

Updated: Jun 14

Vehicle theft continues to track up – with no end in sight. A recent incident at an Alabama auto dealership claimed more than $1 million in merchandise, as well as hundreds of keys to luxury cars at the facility. Thieves broke into the dealership and stole several high-end cars after the in-place security system failed.

iDter’s security system stops intruders

iDter has a complete, automated system that provides stellar coverage and immediate deterrence at automobile dealerships. Dealerships like Liberty Auto are now successfully detecting and deterring intruders, vandals and loiterers, thanks to iDter’s high-tech Niō Guardian camera monitoring solution.

iDter’s security system also extends itself to protecting vehicle keys through a partnership with ASSA ABLOY company KEYper Systems. Now, auto dealers can protect hard assets like vehicles on their lots, as well as the keys used to operate them through an integrated electronic key management system.

In the example of the Alabama dealership, thieves made their way into the auto facility after hours when no alarm activated during their entry. iDter’s automated deterrence system would have immediately confronted criminals with aggressive deterrence responses before they make it to the building, and if they continue, they cannot erase the traditional, on-premises NVR hard drives because it is both stored in the cloud and on SD memory cards located in every Niō. We recommend Niō Guardians to be located above the key cabinets at automobile dealerships (as pictured) to deliver blinding red/blue strobes and 120 dB alarm sounds if a break-in is attempted.

AI learns and continually improves

iDter’s security systems are a different, higher breed of protection. It’s engineered with AI and analytics in a fully automated approach that spots intruders within seconds and commences a series of deterrent actions. Niō activates an array of programmable measures, including instantaneous illumination of 10,000 lumens of multi-directional LED floodlights, blinding strobes of red and blue LEDs, piercing sirens, situation-appropriate voice-down warning messages and intimidating sound effects.

Audio from Niō can be used during the early evening hours at the automobile dealership, explaining the dealership is closed: “Feel free to browse our inventory, we use lights and cameras for your safety and ours.” Other audio messages can be more direct, advising after-hours visitors to leave the business before authorities intervene.
